Credit card fraud advice

Friday, 03 May 2019

ECU is aware of several cases of suspected bank card fraud affecting students who attend ECU’s Mount Lawley Campus.

We can confirm none of the ATMs at the Mount Lawley Campus have been compromised and are continuing to monitor this.

Staff or students who suspect their bank card has been affected are advised to contact their bank immediately then contact WA Police on 131 444 to report the incident.

How to protect yourself against credit card fraud:

  • Protect your cards
If possible, keep them in an RFID blocking wallet.
  • Take care using ATMs
While all of ECU Mount Lawley’s ATMs have been confirmed safe, take care when using ATMs anywhere. Check for signs of tampering, devices/buttons/card slots that look like they can be easily removed. Cover the keypad well when entering your PIN and look out for anyone acting suspiciously around an ATM.
  • Be careful online
Make sure you are using reputable websites with strong security measures. If in doubt or unsure, avoid.
  • Check your bank balance online
Check your card transactions regularly to pick-up fraud quickly.
