Staff are invited to attend the Vice-Chancellor's Distinguished Oration 2017, which will be delivered by Professor Linda Merrick, Principal of the Royal Northern College of Music.
In her oration, headlined ‘The value of a performing arts education in a changing world’, Professor Merrick will outline how in an uncertain world, performing arts matters now more than ever before.
Professor Merrick will explore how this discipline continues to offer many political, economic, social, educational and personal benefits.
From the rapid rise of social media and the major changes in how young people access music to the exponential growth in TV talent shows, Professor Merrick will also explore the conflict between artistic integrity and the economic realities of today.
Reflecting on what the future may hold she will explain how higher education can respond to the challenges of an increasingly global, virtual and media driven world.
This presentation is also a chance to learn more about the new partnership between WAAPA and the Royal Northern College of Music and the exciting opportunities this will offer staff and students.
The Vice-Chancellor's Distinguished Oration is on Tuesday, 29 August at 3.00pm at the Geoff Gibbs Theatre, Building 1, ECU Mount Lawley Campus.
Places are limited, please register your attendance by Friday, 18 August.
