Better communicate your research through the media

Thursday, 15 June 2017

Would you like to get better at communicating your research to the media? We know media coverage increases citations, can build research partnerships and helps in grant applications. Representatives from the Australian Science Media Centre will be running a 2 hour media training workshop at the Joondalup Campus on Wednesday, 12 July.

The workshop will cover:

  • Understanding the current media landscape (and the pressure journalists are under)
  • Why bother? (When you’re a busy scientist, finding time to do media work can be tough. What’s in it for you?)
  • Preparing for an interview
  • Handling difficult questions – how to handle questions that are political or outside your area of expertise
  • The power of voice - making your voice work for you
  • Presentation style – handling a press conference
  • Pitching stories – how to write a summary that will entice the media

Details: 10am- midday on Wednesday, 12 July 2017

Venue: Room 8.201b Joondalup Campus.

Registration: Please RSVP

Lunch provided.
