Borrowing equipment

Digital and Campus Services provides a range of audio visual and IT equipment for loan, to support the work of ECU Staff.

A loan request can be completed online via the Service Catalogue, by selecting the ‘Borrow IT Equipment’ form’. Equipment can be collected from the selected eLab and you will be required to show your Staff ID card and complete an equipment loan agreement form.

Depending on availability, you may also borrow equipment directly from the eLab without having to complete the online form. Please see our friendly eLab counter staff for assistance.

Students looking to borrow computing equipment should visit the ECU Library website to find out more.

Ordering computers and mobile devices

Staff members requiring a new computer, tablet or mobile device can place an order to purchase or lease a device by visiting the Service Catalogue. All orders require approval by your Head of School, Director or Manager with the appropriate level of financial delegation. If approved, your request will be processed by Digital and Campus Services and your order will be delivered in 4 to 6 weeks. Once your order is received, will be contacted to schedule a deployment time.

Please be advised that all ECU leased and purchased computers come pre-installed with standard software required for you to work at the University. You can find out more about standard and additional software available below.

Equipment in meeting rooms and teaching spaces

Digital and Campus Services provide world class facilities in meeting rooms and teaching spaces, including projectors, videoconferencing equipment, touch screen televisions and modern, comfortable furnishings.

Refer to the Room Allocator to find out what equipment and furniture is provided a meeting room, class room or lecture theatre. It is recommended you visit the room prior to your meeting or class to familiarise yourself with the equipment.

Most of the meeting rooms on campus have user guides in the room to help you use the specific equipment, and you can access the detailed instructions in the Digital and Campus service Knowledge Base.

Some newer teaching spaces contain spanned classroom technologies which will enable you to remotely teach between campuses. If you would like more information on this please contact the Centre for Learning and Teaching or the IT Service Desk.

Digital and Campus Services provides a range of software to enable staff, researchers and students to undertake their work and study. Please note, use of software by ECU staff and students is governed by the ‘Software Conditions of Use’.

Software in computer labs

Computers in all ECU labs and teaching spaces are equipped with the software required for learning activities in that space, based on requests from the relevant teaching staff.

Digital and Campus Services are responsible for ensuring every computer lab has the correct applications installed and tested prior to the commencement of each semester.

Teaching staff are notified by email about updating their software requirements prior to the beginning of the semester. You don’t have to wait until the start of the semester to order; new software can be requested at any time by using the link below.

Software on your ECU computer

All ECU computers come pre-installed with the most commonly used standard software, though the standard software is different for PCs and Macs. Additional software and applications are also available for installation.

To have software installed on more than one ECU computer, complete the ‘Software for multiple staff machines’ form in the Services Kiosk.

Software for your personal or home computer

ECU provides staff a range of free software for personal use. Additional software for personal machines is available for purchase at a significantly discounted price from a range of ECU partners.
