If research, teaching or general operational activities involves using chemicals and hazardous substances you will need to work in accordance with the legislative requirements and at a standard that ensures the health and safety of staff, students, the community and the environment.
Before conducting research, teaching or general operational activities involving radiation, biosafety and chemicals and hazardous substances at ECU, staff and students must identify the hazards inherent with their work and seek any approvals required from ECU RBHSC before work commences. A health and safety (HS) risk assessment must be completed using the WHS risk register module available in ECU’s online risk management system – Riskware and approved in accordance with ECU’s risk acceptance criteria. If any of the radiation, biosafety or chemical and hazardous substances hazards identified in the HS risk assessment meet the criteria for RBHSC approval, an application must be made to the RBHSC, as outlined in the RBHS application and approval process flow diagram. This flow diagram provides an overview of the process, links that provide the user with further information to assist understanding and forms that will need to be completed if required.
