SOAR Ambassadors

As higher degree by research students themselves, our SOAR Ambassadors are your peers. They come from different faculties and offer a diverse range of skills.

Most Ambassadors have already progressed through a number of stages of the research journey, including their research proposal, presentation and Confirmation of Candidature. They are well-placed to pass on the knowledge and skills they’ve developed through their own experiences.

Review the list below to find out which Ambassador may be able to provide you with the support you are looking for. For general support, you can select an Ambassador based on the day and campus that suits you.

Minh Nguyen

Availability
Minh is available on Mount Lawley campus each Wednesday.

Training areas

Minh provides support from her own experience with:

  • Mixed research methodology
  • Early candidature, research proposal and confirmation of candidature
  • Literature searching

Minh also offers support in the following areas in-depth interview, participant observation, survey development, project management, poster development, conference presentation and public speaking, career development, writing a resume, literature review, publication, academic writing, thesis formatting and great listening to issues related to research journey.

Korey Esfandiar

Availability
Korey is available on Mount Lawley campus each Thursday.

Training areas
Korey provides support from his own experience with:

  • Publications (PhD with publications)
  • Referencing (Mendeley)
  • Qualitative/quantitative research (ladder interview, photo-elicitation technique, SmartPLS, SPSS, AMOS)

Korey also offers support in the following areas: Reviewing literature, social media and research databases for researchers (Research Gate, ORCID, LinkedIn, Google Scholar), conference/proposal presentation, academic writing.

Maria Enriquez-Watt

Availability
Maria is available on Mount Lawley campus each Tuesday.

Training areas

Maria provides support from her own experience in:

  • Mixed methods and qualitative research methods
  • NVivo and coding analysis
  • Academic writing

Maria also offers support in the following areas: Interviews, focus groups and transcripts; referencing (Endnote, EndnoteWeb and Endnote app.); ethics applications; literature reviews; PowerPoint presentations; research methodologies; researcher reflexivity and research journal writing.

Saman Akbar Zadeh

Availability
Saman is available on Joondalup campus each Thursday (from 8.30-12.30 and from 2:30-4:30).

Training areas
Saman provides support from his own experience with:

  • Quantitative statistics and statistical software (Excel, SPSS, Minitab, R)
  • Referencing
  • Thesis and document formatting
  • Artificial Intelligence (machine learning, artificial neural networks, deep learning)

Saman also offers support in the following areas: Journal evaluation, techniques for getting more citations, Turnitin, creating presentations in Prezi, graphical programs such as Photoshop and Visio.

Chaminda Ranasinghe

Chaminda is available on Joondalup campus each Wednesday.

Chaminda’s top skills are:

  • Referencing (Endnote/endnoteweb and Mendeley) and thesis formatting
  • Literature survey and academic writing
  • Conference presentation and public speaking

Chaminda also offers support in the following areas: Turnitin, social media & research databases (ResearchGate etc), Ethics, reviewing literature, leadership, presentation slides (Powerpoint, Keynote), time management, PEAKS (Proteomic data analysis), science communication to non-science audiences and children.

Hossein provides support from his own experience with:

  • Questionnaire development

Hossein also offers support in the following areas: Qualtrics, SPSS, Factor Analysis, MS Office, referencing (Endnote, Mendeley, Qiqqa), poster design (Canva), network analysis research and related software like Gephi, UCINET, NodeXL.

Kunal also offers support in the following areas: Referencing using EndNote, MyPlan, SPSS, designing posters, literature reviewing, ethics, publications, time management and organizational skills, MS Office, Qualtrics (basic) , mentoring and support to overcome barriers associated with research journey.

Julia provides support from her own experience with:

  • Academic writing, editing, publication and presentation preparation
  • Arts/Humanities methodologies and theoretical frameworks
  • Proposal and thesis formatting and publication/presentation design

Julia also offers support in the following areas:  Literature reviews, referencing, ethics, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Powerpoint design, conference presentation, public speaking, qualitative research.

Parisa Khatamian Far

Parisa is available on Joondalup campus each Friday.

Albert Amankwaa

Albert is available on Joondalup campus each Tuesday.

Albert provides support from his own experience with:

  • Quantitative research design and methodology
  • Multivariate data analyses (including Structural Equation Modelling using AMOS, and/or PLS software as well as Mediation and/or moderation analysis using SPSS, and Hayes’ Process Macro)
  • Academic writing

Albert also offers support in the following areas: Research communication, conference presentations and article publications, survey design and techniques (paper – based and/or online using Qualtrics), ethics applications (particularly for business students), academic writing and APA referencing, research proposal/thesis writing and formatting, 3MT presentation preparations, people management and human relations.
