Field Work

What is it?

Fieldwork is an experiential method of learning that is done outside the classroom or laboratory. Fieldwork is used to provide students opportunities to work in the field, particularly (but not exclusively) in science and social science disciplines.  Fieldwork opportunities are a useful way to provide students with Work Integrated Learning activities that are less formal than practicum placements. At ECU, some examples of fieldwork can be found in Occupational Therapy, Health and Safety and Marine Biology.

For information on the steps to be taken to set up a field work opportunity, please read through the WIL Essential steps for staff and the WIL Handbook for Staff.
