Supervisor Program

This program has been developed to build supervisory capabilities within the ECU context in current and aspiring front line supervisors. It is suitable for both academic and general staff. Participants will learn skills to effectively supervise and develop their team and manage team operations. The program consists of one induction and 14 units. Participants are encouraged to complete the course within 12 months however are given a time limit of two years. Participants will need to supply evidence of their line manager’s approval to undertake the program due to the high level of commitment required by participants and the need to undertake activities within their work team.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand self and appreciate the diversity of others;
  • Lead and develop teams and individuals;
  • Create a safe and conducive work environment;
  • Plan outcomes to ensure sustainability
  • Understand the ECU and higher education environment
  • Work within ECU systems and processes.

Teaching & Learning Processes

After completing the Supervisor Program Induction, participants attend 13 three hour workshops plus EO Online 2. Workshops involve a mix of theory and practical activities. Participants are required to complete learning reflections and other post-workshop activities in their workplace.

Assessment

Participants are required to submit one learning reflection, for each of the 14 modules plus other post-workshop activities to complete the course.
