Student Safety

ECU cares about your safety, both on and off our campuses.

While your campus and Perth are generally safe, clean and friendly, you are encouraged to use your common sense, remain vigilant and be aware of your personal surroundings.

  • Keep your valuables in a safe place.
  • Do not leave bags containing money or items of sentimental value unattended.
  • At night, walk with a friend and keep to well lit areas. Or, if on campus, you can ask Campus Security to walk you to your car. Campus Security can be contacted by calling 6304 3333.
  • Keep your passport, personal items and money in a safe place at all times.
  • Always lock the door to your room/home.
  • If you have a car, keep it locked, and don’t leave any valuables in it.
  • If you have a bicycle, make sure it’s locked if you leave it unattended.
  • Always swim between the red and yellow flags at the beach.
  • Take care when walking in bushland, as snakes are common in WA.

Some additional tips and information on how to stay safe are provided on the Western Australian Community Safety website.

Assistance for non-life threatening situations is available from WA Police by phoning 131 444.

In an emergency, dial 000 from any telephone for assistance, or 112 on a mobile to connect to the National Emergency Services. If you have a speech or hearing impairment, dial 106 using a text phone (TTY) or a computer with modem access, to request assistance.
