ECU as copyright owner

ECU is itself a copyright owner. It has the exclusive right to use or exploit creative works that it produces or acquires.

The Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) provides that where works are created during the course of a person’s employment, the employer and not the employee, owns any copyright in the works (with some exceptions). ECU generally owns the copyright in all works (e.g. teaching materials, exams, lecture slides, or curricula) produced by its staff in their capacity as employees, subject to its Intellectual Property Policy.

Occasionally, other organisations contact ECU to ask for permission to use ECU’s copyrighted material. These requests should be referred to ECU’s Copyright Officer.
