Research Integrity

The conduct of research activities involving human or animal participants is governed by ethics guidelines contained in legislation and policies. Researchers conducting research projects that involve human participants, previously collected confidential data or the use of animals need to have an understanding of the guidelines that are contained in legislation and policy. These include the following documents:

  • The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research;
  • National Statement of Ethical Conduct in Human Research;
  • Guidelines for Ethical Conduct in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research;
  • ECU Policy for the Conduct of Ethical Human Research;
  • The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research;
  • The Australian code of practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes;
  • ECU Policy for the Conduct of Ethical Research and Teaching Involving Animals; and
  • The Animal Welfare Act.

Research Misconduct

The Research Misconduct Policy establishes a framework for dealing with breaches of the Australian code for the responsible conduct of research (Code) and research misconduct, and the appropriate action in the event of an allegation of a breach of the Code or research misconduct.
