The Planning and Equity Unit provides high-level advice on the strategic positioning of the University, including on key equity issues and trends.
The Unit co-ordinates statutory reporting to government agencies on equity matters and monitors and reports on performance against the University’s equity support plans.
Recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and Country
The recent articulation of the University’s preference for the term ‘Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander’ over ‘Indigenous Australians’ in all new publications and communications prompted a review of the policy on Recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and Country. This provided an opportunity to simplify and clarify the wording and procedure for acknowledgements. The revised Policy is available on the policy database.
The Policy is supplemented by Guidelines which provide more detailed advice on appropriate, culturally-sensitive, recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples including the Welcome to Country, Acknowledgement of Country, responding to a Welcome to Country, recognition at the start of semester and recognition in official documents and webpages,
