University council, its Committees and Boards

University Council

Council is the governing body of the University as defined in Part III of the ECU Act 1984.

Council establishes committees to assist it to meet its responsibilities. It considers that committees provide a mechanism by which matters may be explored more fully than would be possible at Council, and then put to Council by way of advice or recommendations.

Fees Allocation Committee

The Fees Allocation Committee is established under sub-section 5(1) of University Statute 29 – Amenities and Services Fee.

The Fees Allocation Committee is to recommend to Council and the Guild an appropriate allocation of the fees estimated to be collected in the following year to some or all of the broad categories of expenditure specified in section 4(1) of Statute 29.

Foundation Board

The ECU Foundation Board is established under University Statute No 17.

The ECU Foundation is established to promote and encourage philanthropic giving to the University, as well as other contributions towards the agreed Fundraising Plan, for the University’s advancement and development, to benefit its students and the wider community.

Governance Committee

The Governance Committee provides advice to Council on governance issues and maintains a model of governance guided by best practice and reflecting Council's commitment to continuous improvement in University Governance.

Honorary Awards Committee

The Honorary Awards Committee was established to consider nominations for honorary awards and to make recommendations to Council on suitable candidates for those awards. The Committee also assesses the suitability of the existing suite of honorary awards and the policy and guidelines governing them.

Legislative Committee

The Legislative Committee provides advice and recommendations to Council on legislation of the University including the ECU Act, University Statutes, Rules and By-Laws.

Nominations Committee

The Nominations Committee provides advice and recommendations to Council on matters surrounding membership of Council, its Committees and Boards.

Quality, Audit and Risk Committee

The Quality, Audit and Risk Committee was established to advise and assist Council in the effective discharge of its fiduciary duties of governance and stewardship in respect of ongoing performance, control and compliance, through monitoring, reporting and making recommendations intended to sustain and improve University performance and systems of internal control, risk management, quality, business continuity and legislative compliance.

Resources Committee

The Resources Committee was established to advise and make recommendations to Council on the University's financial position, its assets and liabilities and its strategies relating to income, budget allocations and capital expenditure on electronic and physical infrastructure.

South West Campus Advisory Board

The ECU South West Campus (Bunbury) Advisory Board is established under s 20 of the ECU Act.

The South West Campus (Bunbury) Advisory Board provides advice to Council and the Faculty where appropriate on matters such as the needs of the South West Region, research, enhancing external relationships, community engagement, promotion and development of the University in the South West and any other matters referred to it by Council and the Faculty. In addition the advisory board and its members act as advocates for the University.

WAAPA Board

The West Australian Academy of Performing Arts Board is established under s 24 of the ECU Act.

The WAAPA Board provides advice to Council, the Faculty Board and the Director of the Academy where appropriate on matters such as the needs of the performing arts community, research, enhancing external relationships, community engagement, promotion and development of the academy and any other matters referred to it by Council, the Faculty Board or the Director of the Academy. In addition the board and its members act as advocates for the Academy.

Vice-Chancellor's Committees

Vice-Chancellor's Planning and Management Group

The Vice-Chancellor’s Planning and Management Group provides a forum for discussion amongst senior staff on key issues, strategies and emerging opportunities, including the sharing of information and insights. The Group ensures the proper and timely management of the University’s activities, particularly the progression of major initiatives, and provides advice to the Vice-Chancellor to assist in his decision-making.

Vice-Chancellor's Student Advisory Forum

The Vice-Chancellor's Student Advisory Forum provides an opportunity for students to raise issues and provide advice to the Vice-Chancellor on any matters that would lead to improving access to ECU programs for motivated and capable students, and improving the experiences and outcomes of students.
