Work Integrated Learning

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) refers to coursework students are undertaking, and are being assessed on, authentic activities through engagement with industry and community partners as a formal component of their degree studies. WIL experiences allow students to develop and apply the knowledge and practical skills developed in the classroom in a way that is directly relevant to their area of study. WIL activities can take place on practical placements, as projects or in the classroom.

What are the benefits for students?

Through WIL experiences, students:

  • Apply their knowledge and skills;
  • Streamline their transition from university to the workplace;
  • Engage with workplace professionals, including potential future employers.

How do I set up WIL in my unit or course?

  • Student Practicum Risk Management Form: Complete for each student going on placement.
  • ECU Activity Risk Register: Complete for each workplace students are visiting.
