NAIDOC Week Events 2016

NAIDOC Week on the Joondalup campus promises to be bigger and better this year with a number of events to help celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

Film Screening

The School of Nursing and Midwifery will be hosting a screening of Philip Noyce’s 2002 film adaptation of Doris Pilkington Garimara’s Rabbit Proof Fence. Grab your lunch and come along to be entertained by a didgeridoo performance before settling in to enjoy this landmark film.

Cultural Afternoon

The Centre for Learning and Teaching and Human Resources present an afternoon of cultural activities and stalls that promises to be bigger and better than last year!

Attractions include:

  • A presentation by Vivienne Hansen from Binyaarns Bush Medicine (1:00pm)
  • Giftware for sale featuring Indigenous designs
  • Dr Mick Adams selling his new book, My journey through the academic mist
  • Aboriginal books and CD's for sale, including Dr Noel Nannup’s CD, Noongar Stories
  • Nyoongar language display and resource giveaways
  • Guided talks and displays on the Nyoongar design features of the Ngoolark building
  • Great raffles, including a silk scarf donated by Kirrikin
  • A bake sale fundraising stall
  • NAIDOC merchandise
  • Documentary screening: Synergies: Walking together, belonging to country.
  • Aboriginal cultural quiz with prizes
  • Displays by ECU groups and projects

    • Building the Aboriginal Workforce for a Healthier Future (School of Medical and Health Sciences)
    • AIME Mentoring
    • Aboriginal Student Union

All funds raised will go to Midnight Basketball Australia.
