Teaching awards

At ECU we regard the quality of our academic staff and their teaching as one of our main strengths. As a result we actively support recognition for outstanding quality of teaching and learning. As an academic staff member, you may be eligible for a teaching and learning award. There are two levels of teaching and learning related awards: the local ECU awards and the national awards.

Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching and Learning Awards

The local ECU Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching and Learning Awards mirror the national Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) for strategic reasons. Winners of the Vice Chancellor’s Awards in any given year are therefore in a very good position to press for ECU nomination in the corresponding AAUT category in the same year.

Australian Awards for University Teaching

The Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) will be administered by the Department for Education, Employment and Workplace Reform (DEEWR) from 2012.  They replace the former Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) awards.

The AAUT scheme and the sub categories have been used to design the Vice Chancellor’s Teaching and  Learning scheme so that local award winners in each category are well placed to commit themselves for AAUT nomination by ECU. This AAUT scheme has three major categories with total funding of over $3 million.
